Welcome to the 1992 Olympics!

We have a lot to catch up on my friends. I had my Seven Wonders class on Tuesday and we went to the Olympics in 1992! Sadly, if you know me then you know this, I am uncoordinated and unathletic so I only walked the place and reminisced about a time before my birth. I am sorry to inform you that I am not an Olympian and did not compete. Yes, I know this is shocking and I am hurting your hearts. You will be okay though because I have pictures.

I am funny, right? Yea, probably not. Anyways, I went to what remains of the 1992 Olympics and it was gorgeous. I saw the Torch (no pic because it was too dark). I saw a communication tower that was used for broadcasting and whatnot. It looked like the top of a spaceship from Star Trek (may it live long and prosper).

We sketched this area too which was cool. We got to see the main arena, but it was too dark for pictures. I saw one of the main buildings that were built in 1929 and almost torn down, but they decided to renovate the inside to keep the history (take note America). This is why Europe has cooler architecture...and because it is 2000 years old versus 200...I say excuses, excuses.

Here is a museum located near the Olympic arenas...

Do you see all the stairs? That is only 1/4 of the way up to this thing....I was out of breath, my legs burned, my lungs burned, and I regretted being born. Ok, that was way too dramatic, but the burning and no breath was legitimately how it was in the moment. Despite the stairs, I would say that it was 100% worth it. The view was amazing. I did not take a picture however because I did that on my third day here and it is in one of my earlier posts.

On the way to the Olympic area, we saw an old farmhouse, which was very pretty. It belonged to the farmers that kept the gardens, which are not public spaces.

It was a pretty short class because we started 20 minutes late due to it being a 45-minute commute from campus. I do have a few stories to tell you though.

A girl in my class was mugged on Thursday while headed home after class on the metro. She was elbowed in the eye and her wallet taken. She has a black eye now, but she is okay. A guy had his necklace ripped off his neck coming home late one night by himself. Another guy coming home late one night (he was intoxicated) was attacked, beaten up, and his stuff stolen. Basically, be careful at night. Do NOT travel alone especially if you are intoxicated.

I am doing well. I am feeling a whole lot better after sleeping this weekend. I am going to a cooking class tonight. I will let you know how it goes. We are learning paella, gazpacho, and tortilla de patatas. Tomorrow, I am going somewhere for class...I do not really know where or what we are doing, but she usually sends an email the day before to tell us. I think she mentioned a monastery. This weekend I will be in Madrid. Class is going well. We listened to a Spanish song and had to translate it and fill in the blank parts of the song. Then we had to sing it together....I sang solo... so low that you could not hear me.

That is all I have for you today. Ciao
